What are skid plates and bang plates?

Skid plates or bang plates are pads, strips or plates attached to the bow and stern of your boat to protect it from wear, knocks and scrapes. Depending on what type of boat you have and what type of paddling you do, there are a number of different types we can fit.
The skid or bang plates that are made of a different material to the hull of your boat work by providing an extra or sacrificial layer of material that will, depending on use, wear or crack and need replacing.
The type of skid or bang plate that are of the same or similar material to the hull are simply increasing the thickness in those areas and in some cases adding some extra impact or abrasion resistance. This type is generally repairable rather than replaceable.

Custom Kevlar felt skid plates*

PK Paddlesport custom skid plates are cut to size and shaped to fit your boat. 

For skid plates we use a harder epoxy resin that is more resistant to abrasion.

Custom Kevlar felt bang plates*

PK Paddlesport custom bang plates, like the skid plates, are cut to size and shaped to fit your boat.

For the bang plates we use a more flexible and impact-resistant epoxy resin that when combined with the Kevlar felt forms a very tough penetration resistant layer.

*  This type of skid or bang plate is best suited for use on Royalex (RX), Tformex and composite canoes. 
Welded Skid plates HDPE Plastic Skid plates

Bang/skid plates for PE canoes**

PK Paddlesport welded HDPE skid plates provide a cost-affective method for protecting the ends of PE (HDPE) canoes. They are formed from the same material as the hull of the boat and are welded in place. They are easily and cheaply repaired when worn or damaged.

Available in black, light green, blue, yellow or white.

Custom-made wear pads for PE (HDPE) boats***

These welded wear pads are usually fitted to activity centre or hire fleet kayaks and sit-on-tops as a sacrificial layer on the areas of the boats subject to high wear and tear.
